Can get into shared resources but...

Postby Indice » Sep 12 05 4:30 am

Hi,

I have installed VPN on 2 points. I can see the other network and get into any shared resources machine but I can´t see the server's shared resources and need to acces them. The server is a win2k3 and is running the other side VPN.
Regards!

So you can double click a machine and a window opens displaying the shares, but you can't browse the shares?

That would sound like an MTU problem, please see our knowledge base article on adjusting your MTU size and see if that helps.

I can browse shared resources and use them on the network. The only thing I can´t do is to browse the Server shared resources and use them.

Look...

VPN Win 2k3 Server1 on office 1
PC1, PC2, PC3...

VPN Server2 on office 2
PC1B, PC2B, PC3B...

I can connect using PC1B on office 2 to VPN Server1 on office 1 and see the PC1 & PC2 & PC3 shared resources, even use them but I can´t see the shared resources on VPN Win2k3 Server1 on office 1

I need to see & use the shared resources on VPN Win 2k3 Server1 on office 1
Regards!

So, you can see the remote machines behind the remote VPN server, but no shares on the server itself. That sounds like a MS permissions/access problem then, what error messages do you see when you try to open the shares?

Have you stopped the Win2K3 personal firewall?

What if you go to Start-->Run and type \\(servername)?

1. Can you confirm Matts question regarding the Windows firewall?
2. Are you using any other security suites, like Nortons, McAfee etc?

Hi Mattp/Jamesc,

I can´t get into the server typing \\servername
I confirm it. No Win2k3 personal firewall is running

I am not using any other security suites, just WinGate Enterprise on the server. I have wingate firewall running but the VPN port was opened as I installed the VPN

1. Can you ping the server? If yes, does a UNC path with the IP address work?
2. Is the Win2k3 box a small business server version?
3. Does your Windows event viewer report any problems?

I am having, i think, amost the same problem.

From two remote offices i can see, in the network browser window, all PC's and servers.
I can browse all PC's and servers except one.
When i try opening it, the browser window freezes. After a while a dialog box opens stating some RPC error.
I have tested RPC with the Microsoft RPings.exe utility, RPC works fine both ways, trough the tunnel.
I have set all logs to debug, but can not see what the cause is.

Any idea?
