Remote Desktop not working after installing WinGate VPN

Apr 30 09 7:59 am

I just installed the WinGate VPN on a remote server that I connect to with remote Desktop. After installing the software, I can no longer get in. Does the WinGate VPN disable the remote desktop?

Hi

No, Remote desktop should still work fine.

The machine you are connecting to - does it have more than one Network card? I'm wondering if it's not publishing the correct routes etc.

WinGate VPN does include a firewall, so you should also check if WinGate has detected any network adapters as external. If WinGate sees a non private IP address on a network adaptor, it will mark that adaptor as external which subsequently tightens the firewall on that adapter.

You can check the internal/external status of network adapters from the network tab in the gatekeeper.

To open up port 3389 in the firewall if an adapter has been marked as external, go to GateKeeper -> System -> Extended Networking -> Port Security.
