VPN timing Out

Postby marconotsopolo » Nov 12 03 5:52 am

Anybody know why a VPN session will drop off after about 2 minutes.. then reconnect and then drop off again after another 2 minutes.. we have changed the timeouts to never, but it still keeps dropping.. we have just upgraded both sites to ver 5.1 and it is still happening.

We connect via ADSL over PCI ASDL modems on both machines, we have no problems with our internet connection and browse without delay, but as soon as the VPN starts up, give it 2 minutes and it drops off again, but the internet connection is still active..

Both sites use windows 2000, with different IP ranges so no conflict there, any ideas would be welcomed at this stage as it is driving us crazy..

Thanks
Mark

the VPN control channel uses a keepalive mechanism to check if it is still live.. it sounds like there is some problem once the tunnel is created which breaks the control channel.

Do any routes show up as in conflict in the VPN?

No, each site is on a different subnet, we had the ADSL checked out but nothing wrong with that, also had the ISP monitor connection for a while and no bad reports there either.. we implemented a hardware VPN to check if this would happen and it did not, so only pointer was wingate so far.

Hi

Sorry to take so long to get back to you!

If you turn on all logging for the VPN, do you see any indications of a problem? Would you be able to post the portions of the log file for when this happens?

I will enable logging and post details as soon as I can.

Thx
Mark
