Connection Refused By Host - Can't Solve

Postby alpaslan » Oct 20 05 10:13 pm

I am using trial version of WinGate VPN for 2 days. I am using Allied Telesyn AT-AR250E adsl modem, Windows XP Prof with SP1. I created a host vpn. I am trying to connect this host. I am always getting "Connection Refused By Host" message. I did what i saw at forums. What can be the problem?

Make sure that your ADSL modem and/or upstream router on the host side has VPN port (both UDP and TCP) open (by default VPN port is 809).

Host side is the machine where the VPN server is running:

For example, your external connection looks like this:

WG VPN server --> ADSL1 ----- internet ------- --->ADSL2 WG Joiner

Then both ADSL1 and ADSL2 must have port 809 (UDP and TCP) open and allowed.

Hi

what Genie means is that on the ADSL router, which is also a firewall, no connections will get in through it to your VPN server unless you set up a port forwarding entry for port 809 TCP and also for port 809 UDP, and have inbound traffic received on these ports forwarded to the LAN IP of your WinGate VPN server.

Your manual for your DSL modem should contain information on how to set up port forwarding, otherwise sometimes known as pinholes.
