Wingate VPN - setup failure with certificates

Postby infoquest » Oct 21 05 5:17 am

I am trying to get Wingate VPN to work and when I try to add a certificate for an incomming VPN connection by clicking 'generate' the window dissapears and does not move on to the certificate setup screen. Any ideas? I am running it on a Win 2K machine (SP4).

Hi

which version of WinGate VPN are you running? I thought (may be wrong) there might have been a problem like this with an earlier version

Hi Adrien,
I downloaded it yesterday so it should be the latest - it says that it is 6.0.4 although the version check says that the latest is 2.0.4 !!!!!!!!

Adrien,
Further update - the download was VPNOnly2.0.4.1025-USE.EXE so why is it showing installed as 6.0.4?

WinGate and WinGate VPN only are basically the same executable. The version displayed in GateKeeper is taken from the WinGate engine.

The addition of a VPN to WinGate came out in version 5; hence the VPN Only was called version 1. Now with WinGate 6.0.4, the VPN Only version is 2.0.4.

Thanks for the update on revision levels - so 2.0.4 is the latest (although the update check says it is out of date!).
How does this effect the certificate issue?

Are you still not able to generate a certificate?

Strangley enough yes - I have not done anything but it will now generate certificates.

It sounds like that issue is resolved. Please also note, we released a new version of WinGate / VPN this week.

With regards to the new version, it has fixed some issues with:
WinGate VPN behind a NAT router.
MTU discovery.

We recommend upgrading. The latest version can be downloaded from here: http://www.wingate.com/download.php
