W98 PC's can browse, W2K and WXP can not browse

Postby Frans Couwberghs » Nov 25 05 12:00 pm

Hi,

One side = WinGate + VPN, other side = VPN.
W98 PC's can ping and access the W2K server on the 'one side', W2K and WXP PC's can ping but not access the W2K server on the 'one side'.
An eror message appears stating an RPC error.

I have used the rpcping utility through the tunnel with success.

Can anayone help?

THX

*Initial thought with RPC error is MTU; but need some more details

1. What version of WinGate / VPN Only are you using? The latest is 6.1 / 2.1 ... If you are not using those versions, you may want to consider upgrading.

2. a) Are the Win98 PCs VPN Joiners or VPN Participants to the VPN Host.
2. b) Are the Win2k PCs VPN Joiners or VPN Participants to the VPN Host
2. c) Are the WinXP PCs Joiners or VPN Participants to the VPN Host
2. d) What about this other Win2k PC you are talking about; is it the VPN Host?

3. Have you disabled any securtiy suites / firewalls for the sake of testing?

4. I notice you have another post, similar to this on the 14th Oct; did you resolve that; what was the problem? http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?p=19323#19323

**
VPN Host: The Host is like the Server, and runs WinGate / VPN only software.
VPN Joiner: The Joiner is the client, and runs WinGate / VPN only software.
VPN Participant: Are computers that DO NOT run the WinGate or WinGate VPN only software, but participate in the VPN

Hi,

More information:

The version used, for WinGate and VPN is 6.0.4 (1025).

The main office has an internet connection with fixed IP.
A member server (gate) with 2 NIC's dedicated to WinGate and VPN, WinGate is also used as mailserver (VPN Host?).
Licenses are: a WinGate 25 user license, a VPN server license, a 3 user gateway license.
Here we have the domain controller (server02) who can, on the local network, be accesed bij W98 and W3K/XPPRo PC's.
Here is also a member server (server01).

The other offices (2) have an internet connection with non-fixed IP's.
Dedicated W2K workstations runs WinGate VPN with 3 user gateway licenses (VPN Joiner?).
On the PC's i have added a route tho access the network of the main office (VPN Parcitipant?).

Tunnels are working with no problem.
Both servers (01, 02) are pingable from every PC from every office.
Only server02 can not be accessed by the W2K/WXPPro PC's through a tunnel. On the main office network it can be accessed by both W98 an W2K/WXPPRO PC's.
When browsing the network it is visible.

4. That problem is somewhat solved, i closed a forwarding of port 80 to a server, someone was relaying spam through it.
