Clients with WinXP Prof Firewall

Postby Meezo » Aug 02 06 7:56 pm

I have installed WinGate Server on one PC (Win2kProf) and there is a client that is WinXP-SP2 behind it. On the other side, I have a Win2k Server with WinGate VPN on it hosting a VPN and there is also a client (WinXP-SP2) behind it.
The VPN connection is connected perfectly with no conflicts. The problem is-
When i turn off the firewall on both clients, they are accessible, if I turn the firewall on they are inaccessible.

Does anybody have solution for this dilemna??

You have to allow traffic through port 809 UDP on both sides.

On the clients or the servers, or both?
some of the clients are Win2k Servers too?

What shall i do then?

Hold on - I though you referred to the firewalls on the Wingate machines.

When these firewalls are on, can you still ping the clients?

:))) Well, I am a bit confused now. Let's draw a picture:

Client 1/Firewall A --> WG Joiner/Firewall B ---->
---> Firewall C/ WG VPN Server --> Firewall D/Client 1

Both Firewall B and Firewall C should have holes for TCP and UDP traffic through port 809. Firewalls A and D are client-related. Which firewalls do you have to turn off in order for the VPN to work properly?

Picture
ClientA(WinXP-SP2)-w/firewall (WinXP firewall) behind X- WinGate Server

ClientB(WinXP-SP2)-w/firewall (WinXP firewall) behind Y- WinGate VPN

Y hosts the VPN Connection X joins the VPN

when i turn off the Windows firewall (in either client A or B) i can browse the clients from both the server and the client

when i turn the firewall on (in either client A or B) it gives NOT ACCESSIBLE on the network monitor in the WinGate GUI

Reccommendations???

If the firewall is on, can you browse the client machine A from a Wingate server?

:))) So is it yes or no? What I mean is - if you take VPN out of the equation and simply browse client A from the Wingate server it is behind - can you do that with Client A firewall on?
