3rd Party Incoming e-mail

Postby deherrmm » Jul 24 04 8:38 am

I have my mail hosted on a 3rd party mail server. I already researched the e-mail scenarios, and mine would fit #3 ' ISP hosts e-mail.

It sounds like we can use the built in SMTP host to send mail and scan, but it looks like the Outlook clients connect directly to the ISP to get incoming e-mails. Since they go straight through from ISP mail server to the outlook client, does WinGate actually NOT scan those e-mails?

p.s. ALL of my traffic is being forced through WinGate. Is there any good solutions for this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Michael,

If you want your clients to connect directly to the ISP's email server for their mail then you won't get the virus scanning from the WinGate server. To do this you'll have to have the clients connect to the WinGate SMTP server where the traffic will be scanned.

I hope this answers your question, if not let me know.

Regards,

Matt
