Ftp problems

Aug 04 04 1:01 am

KAV does seem to block downloading of infected files with ftp.
The downloads fail on first transfer attempt (KAV intercepts) but if the ftp client has automatic retry then the infected files downloads successfully on the automatic retry. Ticking "Disabled ftp restarts" in the ftp proxy server does not prevent the infected files getting through.
The client PCs on the LAN use WGIC, transparent proxy is set in WinGate.

Hi there

Do you have "Pad out blocked files" option enabled in the FTP Proxy, this will make it look as though the full file is is being sent but it will actually be incomplete (padded out).

Padding out block files is mostly used to keep application from timing out when the data is being scanned by KAV in WinGate.

If you were to untick this option, WinGate would still block the file as instructed (Quarantine or discard) but your client would only receive part of the file (generally 75% of the normal file size) due to the way data is scanned by KAV in the Ftp proxy before it is blocked.

Erwin
