Puresight filtering some traffic but not all

Postby Chris Hammond » May 27 04 4:42 am

Running Puresight 1.1 & Wingate 5.2.3

Puresight blocks naughty POP3 traffic and messages using BTConnect Webmail but not standard WWW traffic.

I have gone through all previous postings here but nothing seems to work.

I have turned the www proxy server on and off as well as transparent redirection, un-installed & re-installed puresight, all to no avail.

How can I check / ensure that my traffic is going thru port 80

Thanks in advance

Chris, is this on your local machine ? (The WinGate Server) or a client machine surfing through WinGate ?

The easiest way to check if your traffic is going through the webproxy is to monitor the activity in GateKeeper. Note though that TCP Link sessions through the WinGate Internet Client will show with an HTTP icon, so be sure to right click on the activity to ensure that it belongs to the WWW Proxy.

Then, the requirements for PureSight to work:

1. It must be enabled
2. The users must be added and enabled for PureSight (And, the added users must be the ones making the web requests)
3. The WWW Proxy must have PureSight on it's list of enabled plugins.
4. Traffic must be going through the WWW Proxy.

Apologies for the long delay in responding.
