Discussion for beta versions of WinGate

Email Server

Postby V S » Jul 21 11 7:07 pm

We are a small organization namely XYZ private limited. We have installed local area network at our office. Email is our main communication tool. We have a following query:
1. Can Emails be delivered on the desk of the user without internet?
2. Which product is the cheaper and yet efficient?

most mail server products will work without an internet connection for intra-LAN mail (e.g mail between different LAN computers).

Will version 7 allow import/export of email GROUP members lsit.
Would also be nice to have a NAME field attached to email address, especially on group mail memeber lists.

Thanks Dave Carnes

Hi Dave

we had a prototype SQL-based list processor in earlier versions, but it was pulled, as we decided list processing would be better handled in a plugin (so it could be extended more).

We still plan to go in this direction. So, importing might be less necessary, since you could then hook to a database to check who can send and who to send to.

Importing is a good idea though. WinGate doesn't currently support that.

As for putting a friendly name in for list processing. We currently don't re-write each message for each list recipient. To put names in (e.g. rewrite the To: header) we'd need to start doing that, which isn't currently on our roadmap, but I can put it in there somewhere.

Friendly addresses (with names) are supported in the Send Email policy item and event processor.
