Urgent Help Needed !!!!!!!

Postby Manu » Aug 01 04 2:10 am

Dear Adrien / Dear Quibik Staff,

I am a registered user of wingate unlimited enterprise version. Today i upgraded to the new version.

My main problem now is the authentication. If i enable full access for everyone in System Policies and full access for everyone in policies of www proxy service - everything fine

But, i was using policies based on location time using java client. Now my main problem is - when i enable the policies the clients doesnt work- i dont get the java client login.

I dont use the wingate client in all the PCs. Since my users are located in different places any such modification would be very difficult.

Kindly help me to configure (to enable the java client for login- it is already enabled in the www service but not appearing in client PCs) this policies at the earliest as now i have enabled the full acces to everyone which is against our company policy.

Thank you very much
Manu Mathew.

Which version were you using previously ?

What does your users show up as in GateKeeper ? The Java login will not be sent if a user's effective security level is higher or equal to what the Java login would grant. OR if the required authentication level does not require the Java login. So make sure that your users are set to "Must Authenticate" and that the Default Rights are ignored.

Also ensure that you are using the WinGate user database - the Java login will not work with NTUDB.

Hi Pascal,

Thank you very much for the immediate reply.
I was using ver 5.2.3
Just before the upgradation everything was fine. I reported the same problem before also. When i installed the ver 5.2.3 over the same installation at that time, it worked fine.

But now my attempt is to make the new version working based on the same requirements.

Policies are set to must authenticate - still it doesnt work

Rgds

Hi All,

I tried many policy settings. But the java authentication doesnt work. The login window never comes. If i enable java and basic authentication method, the basic authentication comes first and after login it displays page cannot be viewed (not authorised). Then if i close and open browser again the java login window comes - that way it works.

Deatils:

* After the basic authentication it says user (xyz) assumed in gate keeper
* I dont use NAT
* Remote control, www proxy are bound to the LAN adapter
* I use system policies www policies (both states the same) to control the access
* User must be authenticated to use remote control service & system policies must also be granted.
* Same with www service
* I do have some assumed users too.
* Users are restricted with time & location

Very much appreciate your suggestions and advice to solve this problem ASAP.

Thank you

Hi all,

Would like to get the comments on following:

1. Is the ftp download problem solved in new version
2. Is voice chat possible now with MSN & Yahoo messenger
3. Is video chat possible now with MSN & Yahoo messenger
4. Is there any plan to go for spyware and popup blocking this time or will this be handled by the AV module.

Thank you

Manu Mathew

I'll have to try this back in the office to see what the behavior is with assumed users and Java login. From the sound of things the machine is treated as if it had no way to up it's security level (Or that fully authenticated security level is not required).

The easiest way would be if you could send me a copy of your WinGate registry key - then I can step through it in the debugger. If you can do that, send it to the email address listed in my profile.

Unfortunately not, in all cases it worked for me. I got the Java login in all scenarios, managed to authenticate which raised the security level enough that I was able to browse the web, etc.

One thing to check is that you actually have a "Java" folder off your WinGate installation directory. If there is nothing there, it won't be able to serve the file. Secondly, the browser has to support it. If you are using IE6 Java has to be explicitly added, otherwise you won't get the popup.

If none of those two possible scenarios are the problem, would it be possible for you to send me details on how your policies are setup, please - I'm thinking it has to be a configuration issue somewhere.

Hi Pascal,

I have send an email with registry details to your email ID.

* Since Java login screen comes when i enable both basic login and java login, it may not be something to do with java functioning.

" If i enable java and basic authentication method, the basic authentication comes first and after login it displays page cannot be viewed (not authorised). Then if i close and open browser again the java login window comes - that way it works."

* I checked the java folder it has 5 files in it

* As you mentioned my problem is wingate server is not sending the java authentication to the clients - may be due to some policy settings

But i tried different combinations of policies - It didnt work.

It could be something to do with settings or some migration problem from older version. Last time when i had the same problem i just installed the older ver. 5.2.3 over the same installation it worked fine.

Please let me know whether you require any more informations regarding my setup to help me in solving this serious issue.

Thank you very much

Manu Mathew.

Excellent. As soon as the email arrives I'll have a look into this one for you.
