ENS Drivers fail to load at system startup

Postby aniruddha » Aug 28 04 5:27 pm

Hello,

We are running WinGate 6.0.1 on our Windows 2000 Server. The problem is that the ENS service is failing to start and the srror message we see in the System Messages tab says:

Object: ENS
Time: 28-Aug-2004 09:24:38
Message ID: 0704
Description: The ENS driver was not loaded. This may mean that it is missing or has been disabled. Press F1 for further details on possible causes and remedies.

As a result of this error, connections through WinGate are failing.

Can someone help us with this problem?

Thanks and regards,

Aniruddha.

Hi

If you go into GateKeeper, select Extended Networking from the System tab, then on the General tab there is a status field at the top. there should be a button with three dots on it.

Click this, and choose to reset the driver to start again.

Then you will need to restart your system.

Let me know if this doesn't help.

Hi Adrien,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I have tried this already but every time the machine restarts, I get a message that tells me that one service could not be started. This service, as I later find out, is the ENS service.

Is reinstalling Wingate a possible solution? But will that mean losing all my settings too?

A reinstall over the top will be treated as an upgrade, so you shouldn't lose settings.

Okay, then I think I'll try that once. I will get back to you with the outcome.

Ok, I reinstalled WinGate and now the ENS error appears to have gone. We are testing the connections, let's hope everything works. Thanks Adrien for your help... I'll get back to you if there is any other problem.

Ani.

Ok, new problem now. Connections are not working anyway.

I checked the network card settings as suggested by you (in your support mail reply). I noticed that both cards on the server were showing usage status as "External". I tried setting the internal card as "Internal" but once the wingate engine was restarted, the card setting was automatically restored to "External".

Now what??

That's very odd.

you shouldn't need to restart the engine to get it to honour the new setting, it should be immediate. And it should remember it as well across restarts.

when you double click on an adapter, does it have a tab called "Advanced"?

Yes, there is an Advanced tab. In this tab, the "Override interface MTU" option is unchecked. The content below that appears disabled.

UPDATE: Okay, after three or four tries, now the status for the internal card shows up as Internal. But the connections still don't work.

Ani.

UPDATE #2: Now we have managed to make everything work except for Messengers. When we try to connect to MSN messenger using SOCKS 5 on port 1080, the connection fails. Internet access is working fine though. MSN messenger gives the following error while connecting:

There was a problem connecting to your MSN messenger, Click Troubleshoot for help with the problem. Error code 0x81000306

If we try with HTTP proxy the error message says:

Sorry, we could not sign you in because the sign-in name you entered does not exist or your password is incorrect.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Regards,

Ani.
