ad muncher problems

Postby pluto2 » Sep 09 04 4:58 am

Hi!

Does anyone use the program "Ad muncher", the very best ad remover if you ask me. It won't work with WGIC activated. It does work if you set iexplore.exe to local access mode, but this isn't really what I want. Any ideas? Ad muncher works by hooking it's own wsock32 to the internet explorer process and make all connections to it's .exe instead which on it's hand get the data and filter it form banners.

regards,
Kristian

Hi

Historically there have been several methods of hooking winsock, being replacement of winsock.dll, dll injection into a process etc.

This is why in about 1996, MS put support into their Winsock stack for Layered Service Providers. This is the recommended way for intercepting connections through Winsock.

The WinGate client uses this method. However, if Ad Muncher replaces the winsock DLL or messes with it, it could well break the WinGate Client.

Maybe the developers of Ad Muncher should be aware of this limitation.
