dlink network camera

Postby rlowery98 » Sep 22 04 10:13 am

hello im running a dlink dcs 2100+ network camera it is connected to a hub that is connected to my wingate machine the camera is supposed to be able to viewed over the internet but i can only view it internally on my lan
the dlink support site says for the camera to be viewed over the internet i have to open certain port in my router but since i dont use a router i use wingate instead to share my isdn connection to my lan
from the faq from the manufacturer site
question?

How do I remotely view DCS-2000 or DCS-5300 series cameras that are behind a router or gateway?

For each camera that resides behind a router or gateway, four ports must be forwarded by the router to obtain both audio and video. If audio is not desired, only the HTTP port will need to be forwarded. The four default ports are as follows:

* 80 (TCP) HTTP Port (allows access to web-configuration and transmits video if other ports are not forwarded)
* 5001 (TCP/UDP) Control Channel Port (used to synchronize audio and video)
* 5002 (TCP/UDP) Audio Channel Port (transmits synchronized audio)
* 5003 (TCP/UDP) Video Channel Port (transmits synchronized video)

how do i open a port redirection
im running wingate 6.03 with ens enabled but with
firewall disabled since i use zonealarm
i have tried disabling ZA but to no avail
the camera has a internal address of 192.168.0.99
on the lan and i can see that its accessing the
internet in the wingate window it says

192.168.0.99: nat-tcp connetion to 209.69.32.138: 80

Hi there

There is a couple of ways that you can make this happen.
By creating a TCP mapping or by redirecting the ports via port security in the ENS(Extended Network Properties) of WinGate.

Is there any reason why you dont wish to use the protection of the WinGate firewall, as without this enabled port forwarding is not available.

If you did want to use port forwarding in ENS (after enabling the WinGate firewall) the basic setup is:

1. Open the port security config in the ENS in GateKeeeper.
2. Select "Connections from the Internet" and the appropriate protocol TCP/UDP.
3. Configure the appropriate port(s) in each port filter select the "redirect packet option" and enter the internal IP address of the Webcam machine.

This way all data coming in on the configured ports will be redirected to the Webcamera machine.

Alternatively you could create TCP/UDP mappings in the Services(tab) in GateKeeeper as per the WinGate helpfile.
This way the mapping can be set to send the data to the Webcam machine also.

Of course you will need to bind your external IP/Interface to the mapping so that remote users can connect.

Hope this helps

ok i went to the services tab and made a new tcp mapping service
here are the setting
start options
automatic
service port 8080
enable default mapping to 192.168.0.12 port 8080
under mappings
link to 192.168.0.12:8080 no dependendencies
my external ip is http://12.18.97.22:8080
but i still cant access the camera from internet only the lan
what am i doing wrong?
thanks

Hi Robert

Try setting the "enable default mapping to" to 192.168.0.12:80
This way once WinGate has accepted incoming connection to the mapping on the service port 8080 it will map data to the Webcam machine (192.168.0.12) on port 80. This is probably the port that the Webcam is listening on.

hello erwin
im sorry to be a bother
but i changed the enable default mapping to the port 80 as you sugessted and it still didnt work maybe i have to try the external ip adress from a machine that is not on my lan when i enter the external ip adress i get page cannot be found but if i enter the lan internal address it comes up just fine
the camera is supposed to be able to be view over the net thats why i bought it for survellance and on the support site they give you the directions onhow to open the ports on a router but i dont use a router
i use wingate
im sorry to sound like a newbie but i just cant seem to figure this out im pretty knowedlegeable on computers but not with wingate

the port setting on the camera can be changed thats why i chose port 8080 instead of port 80

Hi Robert

Just had a quick look at the manual and specs for your camera and see that (just like a webserver) it serves out the video on port 80(Http) so the tcp mapping setup I described should work.

I do note that the camera has the option to use UPNP (Universal plug and play protocol) which WinGate currently doesnt support. I see that the UPnP is optional and it can be turned off in the Advanced settings of the camera config.

I would probably suggest turning this off incase it is interfering with the mapping, and also I would suggest that you try setting the Gateway and DNS server properties of the Camera configuration to point at the internal IP of the WinGate machine (just as is required for WinGate client machines).

From reading (briefly) it sounds as though the camera might use UDP in some circuumstances, and with the configuration that they describe with NAT(Network Address Translation) routers, these ports need to be redirected.

But unfortunately since you are not using the WinGate firewall, port redirection cannot be configured this way in WinGate with the firewall disabled. (As i mentioned in my first post)
