Microsoft VPN Timeouts.

Postby Davey » Dec 03 04 12:01 am

Hi Guys,

I have had this problem before but I some how managed to muddle through the wingate settings and fix it, BUT I have just had to re-install wingate and the VPN connections are now timing out after 2 minutes again.. I have set the GRE and PPTP ports on the "port security" tab in ENS and given them a huge timeout.. but it still disconnects every outgoing VPN connection after 2 minutes??

can anyone help?

Many Thanks!
Davey

Is this from a client behind WinGate or from the WinGate server itself?

What version of WinGate is this?

Few bits of advice, yes. You can use 6.0.3 with your version 5 license key. Version 6.0.3 has the ability to specify that certain port security actions must NEVER timeout. Which, might be useful in this case.

That aside, though. When you are getting the timeout - are you actually having traffic over the VPN? If there is no traffic, the connections will timeout. Is there a keep-alive / other form of regular activity that can help keep the connection open?

I tried installing v6 previously and it simply would not work :(

as for traffic, yes we are transfering files, using remote desktops etc and it just suddenly stops and the connection is lost.

cheers.

Was it 6.0.3? There has been a number of fixes since 6.0. In any event, should you wish to go that route again, we'll be happy to help you with any problems - what were they?
