Installing WinGate 6

Postby alexd » Dec 21 04 10:10 pm

We have WinGate 4.x . Recently we purchase WinGate 6.x but can't install it. When I try to activate License appeare message: "The module for key management could not be located". Computer: Pentium IV, 512Mb Windows NT4 Server SP6. Download 14.12.04 file: WinGate6.0.3.1005-USE.EXE . Before purchasing license I tried to install it on NT4 Workstation. There was no problems.

That means the system was unable to locate the Key Activation modules. It has a long list of paths it will try to find them in. The first thing I want you to do is check the following location:

C:\Program Files\Qbik Licensing

Are there any files there? (This is from the assumption that your Program Files folder is based in C:\)

If there is not, something went wrong during the installation process (Most likely OS permissions related) and I'd recommend that you rerun the installation in that case under a user account that has full access.

Can you detail the steps for me that you went through to get that, because you say before purchasing a license you had no problems on NT4. What has changed on that setup since then?

It was another computer. I can"t try on working server.
I don"t know what's wrong in installation process. Yesterday I went whole process of installation without License activation, but Gatekeeper window wasn"t opened. In catalog C:\Program Files\Qbik Licensing I found one file LicenseManagement.exe. When I tried to launch it, I received the same message as during installation. That's why I had to uninstall WinGate 6 and returned to WinGate 4, because users were waiting the Internet connection. Now I only begin the installation process and when the button "Activate" appear I receive message: "The module for key management could not be located". At that moment catalog C:\Program Files\Qbik Licensing is absent on disk. That's why I interrupt the installation.

There are two DLL files that should be in that folder as well. During the installation (For that activation process) they are held in your system's temp folder.

One of two things can be the problem then:

(a) A corrupted installation set
(b) Some form of permission that denies the system writing DLLs (Perhaps an AV product that is set to scan in realtime?)

Can you check for either of those conditions, please.

Today I once more tried to activate WinGate 6 and received the same message. According to your advice I check permissions - all rights opened. During the installation in Temp directory I saw file LicenseManagement.exe and two DLL's with long names. I can't understand what's the reason of my problems?

Those are the only two reasons I can think of. (You're the only person this has happened to)

Can you do one thing for me, please:

Export the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Qbik Software" for me and email it to me. Then I can look through that and see where things are weird.

Secondly, as an interim step, copy those two DLLs (With the long names) to the C:\Program Files\Qbik Licensing folder. Then try activation again. (Did you double check the permissions there as well?)
