Wingate setup for SSH via port 22 to specific IP address

Have Wingate version 4 Professional on WIN 98 LAN. Need to connect to remote site via Port 22 as this is the in & out location this software (Accuterm) wants to use to get to mainframe DMSI accounting software. Have setup special service under same area as SMTP etc. with the IP address defined, but the software doesn't seem to go through Wingate.

Other option being suggested is to toss out Wingate (and the security benefits it provides) and go with a Router to our broadband connection. I am not in favor of that.

Can anyone help me? If whoever makes Wingate as tech support with answers, would be willing to pay a little for solution.

Have asked local vendor who we purchased the program from years ago and he doesn't have any answers.

for a start, you could upgrade to the latest version of WinGate (6.0.4). You would still be able to use your version 4.x license, but only the features that were in Version 4 will be available.

at a guess, it might update issues from the past, that you are seeing now. So accuterm is made by this site http://www.asent.com ?

Yes, currently using Accuterm 2K2. What would be the cost and assurance that by upgrading this would work?

No cost to upgrade. You just need valid WG Ver. 4 license key for new version to work. No guarantees that this Accuterm program will work, but certainly worth a try IMHO. If you don't want to upgrade, perhaps give us a bit more info on what service you actually setup in WG - TCP or UDP mapping ? firewall settings? etc?

Have added a service called Accuterm where the Port 22 is used (according to the accuterm people that is were data goes in and out).

The main service is DHCP setting because that is what our internet provider is.

Am using the mapping feature under the fourth tab to map to the 207.225.37.xxx website where log in occurs via a password - according to the corporate folks who set up the site for DMSI accounting software which is what we are trying to run.

The other recomendation has been to put a router on and forget Wingate. I believe even our version of Wingate is better protection than a router.

Use a router at home on a cable broadband connection and have to have ZoneAlarm on each of the WIN 98 machines while using the WIN XP SP2 built in firewall.

Unfortunately with Norton running as well, between the two they burn a lot of resources that WIN 98 machines don't have to give.

Any help is appreciated since information here is pretty limited and I don't know where to call for tech support.

Also on the upgrade, how much re-setting up would I have to do If I tried it?

You can find support options here. My first thought would be to simply let it NAT out. This would involve having the client PCs use WinGate as their default gateway. Then, upgrading to 6.0.4 would definately be an improvement as well. It will prompt you to backup your settings. The only trick to migrating from an earlier version is to do the following:

1. Check that your adapters are detected correctly (Internal vs External)
2. Check that your bindings were migrated properly (Each service's binding tab).

Everything should go smoothly, though.
