Wingate & Accessing Yahoo Web Mail

Postby Clifford » Jul 05 05 2:41 am

Hello, we run a couple of PCs behind 1 internet proxy running Wingate 6.0.4. All PCs can browse all sites but cannot read email in yahoo. Clients can log into Yahoo acocunts but when they click on 'read mail', nothing happens, and at the end, after 1 min waiting, 'page cannot be displayed' appears on the screen.

Our web server which is connected directly to the internet can access Yahoo without any problems.

The Wingate server can also access successfully without any problems, once Wingate engine is shut down.

Firewall is off, ENS is running, clients access both via NAT and via proxy to port 80 but both are unable to access to yahoo mail sucessfully. This is the ONLY site not being accessible. Very strange.

Is there a configuration that we did not take into account?

I have just searched these forums, and our help desk. There does not seem to be "one" solution for this problem, and we have never been able to replicate the problem in the lab. Here are a few.

1. June 05. Support Ticket.
Symptoms: Upgraded from version 4 to 6, Could not access Yahoo "Read mail"
**** His solution: Upgrade from 2000 to XP ( ??? )

2. Nov 03 http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?t= ... yahoo+mail
Symptoms: LAN cannot connect to Yahoo Mail
***** Unconfirmed solution: When using Yahoo Messenger, use SOCKS proxy. He had to tweak his satellite connection for Yahoo Mail ( ??? )

3. Nov 04 http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?t= ... yahoo+mail
Symtoms: Cannot open Yahoo mail.
**** Solutions. Have a read

Extra ideas:

1. Turn off the cache in WinGate and test.

2. Does this problem still happen when only using NAT (No intercepts / proxies)?

The same thing happened to me.
I cannot read yahoo mail (inbox). Everything else is working, except inbox.

I found out that this has something to do with internet provider,
because when I switch to other provider - everything works.

When I switch back to the first ISP(cable) - it happens again.(not working)

I thing that is why you (qbik) could not replicate that problem.

Hope this helps...

P.S. Question for everyone with same problem:
Is there any chance that your server is behind NAT ?
(maybe this can be the couse for the problem)

Clifford and Sale_Karaburma,

If either one of you are still having problems with Yahoo, can you try the fix as suggested in "EMC_Groups second problem", which can be viewed on the link below. Please give feedback if it allows you to use Yahoo ok.
