Hello,

I'm having some problems sending mail. Let me explain:

1st, we have a network with 10 computers. One of our computers (Windows 98) is connected directly with our DSL Modem and it shares the connection with others computers in our network using Wingate 6.

Here is the problem:
I'm unable to send e-mail to some domains. I have a account rodolfo@anasoft.com.br. If I try to send a e-mail from rodolfo@anasoft to anything@anasoft.com.br, the Outlook Express sends normally, but I looked with Gate Keeper that the e-mail is stuck at our win98 server.

Then Wingate keeps trying send the mail, but no progress... Here is one error that appears:

SMTP Delivery to anasoft.com.br (try 5) : server smtp-gw.anasoft.com.br rejected recipient rodolfo@anasoft.com.br (temporary)

Here are our configurations for Email:

-> Deliver directly

I'm user from Wingate 4.21 std. When we had it, no forwarding or such thing was necessary...

Hi

It looks like the message is not being sent to your ISP gateway machine.

Looks like some problem with a router or something - MTU issues normally cause problems like this.

Are you using a PPPoE connection?

If so, you may find that when Wingate tries to send max-sized packets, they are too big for your PPPoE DSL/router.

You may need to alter the MTU on the interface that is connected to the internet.

the way to test if there is an MTU issue is with ping.

you need to use ping.exe to send a large packet.

If you send ping packets as below

ping smtp-gw-anasoft.com.br -l size -f

where size is the ping payload, you can find out the largest packet you can send to this server without fragmenting. With normal ethernet, the maximum number for size is 1472

If you get a number smaller than this, it means you can't send packets bigger than (size + 28) bytes without them being fragmented.

Hi,

My connection type is not PPPoE, it's known as MEGAVIA. We have static IP and the computer is connected to internet as soon as Windows finishes loading (i.e. no dialer or such thing).

Ping smtp-gw.anasoft.com.br with 1, 20 or 100 bytes results in timeout.

Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!

You could try pinging another site - basically you are just testing how much the maximum packet size is.

Or you could add the switch "-i 3" to the ping command - then it will only go 3 hops, and you should get an error back saying "TTL expired in transit". This means that the packet of that size got at least that far.
