Hi guys,

1. I have recently downloaded a trail version of the software

2. I would like to know Wingate's Best practice in setting up as a Proxy.

3. I would like to know if you guys would know how the Ports work on the clients end and also setting the server end

4. Wingate is sitting on a server which is not Directly conected to the internet

Any HELP!
Cheers
JJ

So the machines connected are on the same subnet eg: 192.168.10.1 / ...10.2 ...10.3 etc etc, if not set the Default Gateway to be that of Wingate, and enable DHCP so the address is assigned by the server.

If you want 'pure proxy' set the IP address of the Wingate machine and appropriate port in the browser / email client configuration area.

For POP3 in this case the client name takes the format username#mail.isp.net.au where the delimeter '#' tells Wingate to retrieve mail for 'username' from 'mail.isp.net.au' and it will work.

For NAT you can choose direct connection, then disable the POP3 & SMTP proxy, for clients to deal with the remote mail servers.

So how is internet served to this machine? From a router / Cable Modem or an upstream server of some kind?

Ideally Wingate would be connected to the modem by a NIC [or just the modem if it is dialup], then the second NIC to a switch for the clients.

Report back and someone will take it further.
