I can't send emails, but I can recieve them

Postby usa_serega » Oct 17 05 4:29 pm

Ok I'm rinning wingate 6.0.4. I've set up SMTP server as well as POP3 server. I'm able to recieve mail. POP3 works perfectly fine, however when i send email using SMTP server I set up in wingate, delivery never makes it to the destination. DNS loop up works perfectly fine. What's wrong here? Giving a part of the log file here. PLease help. Love this soft, and need to make it work right. Thanks.

I send like 10 of these massages and none of them have made to the destination. I try to open my hotmail box and nothing is there. With yahoo, there is another problem it keeps saying that usa_serega@yahoo.com doesn't exist at all. I'm lost here. please help.

Hi

from the looks of the debug log, WinGate thinks it is delivering those messages just fine. Both hotmail, and yahoo email servers are saying they accepted the mail for delivery.

So if it's not in the folder on hotmail, has it been put in your spam folder there? It's possibly tagged as spam, can be for a number of reasons (i.e. the IP address you send from etc).

What email client are you using? It seems to be sending 2 pointless RSET commands after the first RCPT command.

don't know

Postby usa_serega » Oct 17 05 6:42 pm

:-) Junk folders is the first place I go to check for new email delivery, but I can't find anything. That is so weird, you are absolutely right log file looks good. The mail client that I use is outlook2003. Any other suggestions?
P.S. Before I installed wingate I used to have MailEnable as my SMTP server. Didn't have this particular problem. That makes me think that may be I set configuration in a different way? I truly don't know, I'm lost. I truly don't see the reason why hotmail mail servers would drop my emails. :((((((

Never mind I fixed it. It's all good. The only question how do I creat mail boxes in WinGate.

mailboxes are associated with user accounts, so basically you add users to windows user database if you are using that in winGate, or if you are using the WinGate user database, you add users there.

Each user has the option of having a mailbox. their POP3 login details are then their username (or any of their email addresses), and their password.

so how did you fix the last problem?

Hi Ben

there can be many reasons why mail sending doesn't work, usually configuration issues, sometimes servers reject your mail if they don't like your IP address.

What particular symptoms are you seeing when you try to send mail, and how do you have your email client configured to send mail? Direct to your ISP smtp server, or to WinGate?

regards
