After getting updates fro W2K server GK goes offline

Jan 12 06 11:24 am

Hi,

When we run the update on our W2K server the GateKeeper goes offline once in a while and our subscriber are having problem connecting to the POP3 server (they have to close or wait for a while to connect). Before we are not having this problem only after the update was made. Kindly help since we are new with this.

Thanks,
Ricky

we are using a wingate version 6.0.4 and when we check the version, the site suggested to make an upgrade. does this make any effect on updating the W2K server? need help going crazy on this one.
i can connect to the smtp server using telnet and test one dummy account which can work on nslookup. outlook express works once in a while and i notice that the GateKeeper is getting offline once in a while please help +P

hi

sorry, we applied the patches for the W2K server. My manager also filed a ticket but since both of us are new to wingate we need all the help we can get. we are an isp using wingate to authenticate user before surfing the net.

Hi Ricky,

You can definitely upgrade to the latest version of WinGate. This won't affect the Win2k server updates at all.

So is the WinGate engine stopping on a random basis? You can tell what state the engine is in from the systray icons, a blue icon indicates engine running, yellow is starting/stopping and red is stopped. Does yours stay blue unless you deliberately stop the engine?

How are the users authenticating?

hi,

it stays on blue.
we get random offline on the gatekeeper (not the wingate) and needs to authenticate for browsing from time to time. also the problem is the outlook express needs to close for every send/rcv to make it work.
we are using the ntlm to authenticate.
with the settings do we need to back it up or we can make an upgrade and the settings are still there. now if need to make a back up is there a way for the program to make a back up?
help is highly appreciated

thanks

Hi

WinGate 6.1.1 will install right over the top of 6.0.4, and shouldn't require any changes to configuration, it uses the same settings.

You can choose to back up the old executables on upgrade.

Also, I think you can install 6.0.4 back over the top of 6.1.1 if there is a problem, although you need to upgrade any plugins as well if you are using them.

hi,

probably we will try to simulate the wingate upgrade. try to see if it works then we will just cut it over. thanks a lot for the help, will keep you posted on the result.
