Curiousity about the holding folder

Jun 17 06 5:30 am

Inside the spool folder there is a "holding" folder. I know that this folder is a temp spot for mails being routed around to folders and such, but every so often a mail gets stuck in there, and just sits. They are different sorts of emails, nothing specific about any of the ones that get stuck.

What reasons might exist for an email to get stuck in the holding folder?

This doesn't happen very often, maybe once a week if that. The main reason I would like to know, is because we get orders from our shopping cart that get stuck in there, and would like to handle it quicker.

Thanks for the superpport :O

Hi

There was an intermittent problem that we just recently fixed (in 6.1.3) where if you have a high volume or very regular of mail for a particular domain, then when a domain delivery job finishes and cleans up the folder, it could actually delete the domain folder in between another message being put in the holding folder and the RCP file going into the domain folder. This would result in the mail sitting in holding, and the RCP file staying in the postin folder. It also results in very large log files, since it logs an error about the orphaned RCP file, and moves the MSG file from the holding folder to the dead folder when you restart WinGate.

We fixed this with 6.1.3.

If you have orphaned files in the holding folder, check to see if there are matching RCP files in PostIn. If so, move the MSG file back to PostIn, and I'd also recommend upgrading to 6.1.3.
