KAV settings do not stick

Postby saubrey » Aug 20 06 6:14 am

The KAV plug-in "AntiVirus setting | Action to Take" does not stick. I set it to "Custom" and then later when I view it is set to "Quarantine". I use Terminal Services to access the server running Wingate, but other than that I see nothing that I'm doing that would cause this setting not to stick. All other setting in WG seem to correctly stick. I'm using WG 6.1.4 and KAV 2.x running on a win2k sp4 server.

Also, I'm still waiting for help to get the KAV updates working again. They have not updated since July 29. I've opened a help desk case for this, but it seems to have stalled too.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Not a solution but can you browse / ftp to one of these sites and save the base files then drop them into the bases directory.

http://updates1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_ext/
http://updates2.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_ext
ftp://updates3.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_ext
ftp://downloads1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_ext

Just interested to know if this shows to be a current set of bases when you restart Wingate.

Should I take all the *.avc files or only the base*.avc files? Or should I take all the files at that URL?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Yes it is a bit complicated I grant you.

Probably to FTP all the contents of that folder to a temp location would be best.

Then backup your current 'Bases' directory to somewhere temporary before dropping them in could work.

Now that I look my system hasn't successfully updated for four days either, not sure why.

Here is a snapshot of my 'Download' directory:

It seemed to work. I downloaded all the files from one of the ftp sites and put them into the Bases sub-dir. Then stopped and restarted Wingate. The KAV plug-in now reports that it has AV defs dated Aug 24, 2006.

OK, so this is good, I now have up-to-date AV defs, but the real issue still remains. How to get WG to automatically update AV defs as it should.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi all,

Well now I have a similar condition.

No updates since August the 20th.

Making a request for the plugin [Update] does not work as it used to, nor does any of the scheduled events.

Currently running the Manual Update facility which is ok.

Tried:
    Reinstalled the plugin
    Upgraded to Wingate V6.1.4
    Restored registry prior to failure

Shall see what Scheduler debug logging shows soon and report back.

Image

I also noticed that the Wingate saved registry is some 12kb or so smaller that all the previously saved ones in the last several months, so configuration is absent for some reason.

System in Win2k3 fully patched on a protected UPS power service.

Ok after Scheduled event this is the log in Debug:

08/26/06 16:31:39 Config changed
08/26/06 16:49:14 Error: Caught exception in CScheduleEventAction::DoAction 27
08/26/06 16:49:15 Event forced: Kaspersky Antivirus Update
08/26/06 16:49:15 Config changed
08/26/06 16:52:48 Config changed
08/26/06 17:25:04 Error: Caught exception in CScheduleEventAction::DoAction 27
08/26/06 17:25:05 Event processed: Kaspersky Antivirus Update

Hi all,

Ok, I tackled this one.

Full re install and all working.

That is until I import the registry, had to revert to a registry some months ago for the plugin to automatically maintain itself.

Hi Nev

When you reimported the registry, what parts of the registry were reimported? The whole lot, or just WinGate registry? Did you reimport HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT?

Hi Adrien,

Just the Wingate registry from several months ago as the more recently scheduled registry saves were incomplete and caused the plugin to fail.

OK, was wondering if it might have been a Kapserksy Labs licensing issue - they store licensing information in the registry as well.
