Disable ping command on the external card

Postby Wicked2000 » Sep 02 06 10:24 am

Hi all.

I'm having a problem that just freaks me out!
Let me explain how I implement Wingate in my work network.

ATM->Router->Wingate Server->Wireless anatana.

Here is my problem:

A computer in the network that got an IP from the dhcp. He's surfing without any problem. Someone else is using the ping command and I see in the activity window ICMP=192.168.1.1 (The router IP). A list of at least 100. When I see this list I am trying to ping the wireless antennas and the ping is at least 3000 or request time out. So I chose to block him. and then it returns to 1-4ms and everything is working excellent again. The problem is that he can get an IP from the dhcp. I kicked at least 4 people from the wireless network becuase of that (Remove their mac address from the white list). But I don't want to because there's a spyware or virus on their machine that does that. I don't want that because a virus or a spyware that the all wireless network to slow down. I entered Ens and disabled the Allow to ping Local and from the internet and when I am trying to ping to the the in the lan I get request time out but to 192.168.1.1 I am getting a reply.
The question is how can I block it. I don't want that anyone to be able to ping the Wingate server or the router.

I've tried to ban 192.168.1.1 did nothing. Windows Firewall is running and still it works. Maybe there's a way to block the access to 192.168.1.1 without using 3rd party firewall and use wingate rules.?

Thanks for your help

uhhh
if i understand you, you already disabled the ability for someone to ping your wingate machine.

some routers you can enter their setup and disable icmp so they can't get pinged.

what kind of router, and how you have it hooked up? im assuming it's a wireless router?

if you are using wireless, using a WPA passkey should be plenty to keep random people from leeching your net connection.
I love Wingate, and it loves me!
