Wingate Client (ver 5.2)

Postby midnightbomber » Dec 11 03 2:17 pm

I installed Wingate Server 5.2 today and after some trials got it working with Visnetic AV plugin. Now i tried upgrading my installation of WGIC to 5.2 and my system has been brought to its knees. First the installer hung while trying to copy wgclient.cpl (simple control panel applet) then every network application running on my system committed suicide followed by every program running on my program and then my system just stopped responding. I powered off and tried again. Same thing. Third time (should be a charm). Nope. This is frustrating I just need a stable manageable internet sharing solution. This is not my idea of stable!!!!!

What about if you try a NAT connection from the client without the WGIC installed? All you have to do is point the default gateway and the dns server address on the client machine to the internal IP address of the WinGate server.

My main reason for using the WGIC is the integrated user authentication which would allow me to manage internet users using windows 2000 security groups on my domain. When the WGIC works it works well but i have been having quite a few issues with it.

If the wingate service on the server has to be restarted for any reason the WGIC does not reconnect reliably when the server is back online. End users then have to toggle the WGIC off/on or reset it(something i don't want them to do - it should be as transparent as possible). Many times it will not reconnect at all and the user has to restart the computer. Strangely though, any applications which I set the client to ignore and allow direct TCP/IP access will also stop working if the wingate server goes down.
