Releasing blocked email

Postby olaf.krause » Dec 10 03 5:46 am

Hi,

just got some email that are def. NOT infected but blocked by visnetic plugin. Now I released the mails and expected that I will get them the next time my clients requests new mails through the wingate email proxy (see your doc below). But noting happens the mails still stays in the release email folder.

Any ideas.

Olaf

*********YOUR DOC **********
If an Administrator releases a file through the GateKeeper interface, the file is flagged as 'released'. This means that a user is allowed a file again. The file is copied to the wingate\Quarantine\Release\<source>\<Context> directory.

The administrator is responsible for returning the file to the user. The exception to this is email. If an email is quarantined from SMTP, after being released by the administrator, the email will be automatically reinserted into the email system and delivered to the intended recipient.

I've just tried this here, with 5.2.0 and the latest version of Kapersky for WinGate (1.2.1) and this all behaved correctly, and put the message back in to the message queue and delivered it as expected. Which versions are you using?

Regards

Wingate 5.1 (because with 5.2 I had the ""Single request" in Wingate sometime hangs 09.12.2003" error see this forum) and latest visnetic plugin. Maybe the reinsertion works only for SMTP not for mail that I got via POP3 Proxy (after reading your doc twice this may work as designed?)?

that is correct, the releasing only really works properly for SMTP, since that is the only protocol where we "deliver", every other protocol supported by the plugins operates in a retrieval mode, which means that we would have to match the same user/account/pop3 login in order to be sure that the file would go into the correct user's mailbox.

Normally the easiest way to get these mails back is to use another POP3 server (i.e. the one in WinGate will do), and retrieve them from that.

E.g. set up an account in WinGate, drag the released files over from the quarantine\release folder into the mail\pop3\username folder, then check that mail.
