Wingate User Disable Protect

Apr 26 07 4:23 am

Hello there,

I have done a bit of searching and cannot find anything similar to this so wanted to ask:

Is there a way that a user cannot disable Wingate from the control panel. All of the machine logins have Computer Administrator permissions (mainly to ease the nightmare of constantly managing the machine to do minor tasks) so if they end up in advanced view of control panel they can disable. Was just wondering if that was a possibility now, or consideration for future. As much as we like to think our users are not capable of disabling the software somehow they do, or just a plain uninstall.

Thanks in advance,
Chris Golden

Depending on what Userdatabase you are using and how your policies are setup the process might be slightly different.

However, under System Policies (GateKeeper - Users - System Policies) there is an option to grant rights to shutdown WinGate. If you create a new group, I called mine "Shutdown Operators", you can add only one user, yourself, to that group. By default, the shutdown policy allows any administrator to stop WinGate. So you want to remove that user group and only allow authenticated "Shutdown Operators" to stop the engine.

That way, when logging in through GateKeeper only your account will have permissions to stop the engine.

However, if your other users have physical access to the WinGate Server and can login to it as per normal Windows login, you'll have to rely on OS level setups.
