SMTP authentication

Postby omer_tunac » Apr 27 07 5:04 am

Hi,

We are using Wingate version v6.1.1 Build 1077. I am trying to configure wingate to allow us to send emails with SMTP authentication.

We don't have any SSL certificate.

To achieve this I used SMTP Server's Policies. When I select "user must be authenticated" option on the policies screen. Even I enter the username and password on the client side, the email client (Outlook Express) gives the following error:

Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 Mailbox unavailable by policy', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Am i doing something wrong?

Any help would be appreciated

Many thanks

Hi,

You can use Wingate to send where Authentication is needed.

i) In the Email Server select Delivery for the configuration to the remote SMTP.

If you do this set your client [MSOE] to use Wingate as proxy where the server name is your Wingate [or it's IP].

For POP3 access you use the proxy again and configure the client username as popuser#mail.isp.com for example, that way the client can proxy to a remote box.

ii) Or, you could disable the SMTP and POP3 Servers to try a direct connection to the ISP.

You must have NAT installed for the ii method.

Upgrade to V6.2.1 will help too!
