FTP problem with wingate

Postby fcanetta » Aug 29 07 4:23 am

I'm trying wingate and I'm seeing that with the http protocol works fine.
But I need also to enable the ftp protocol, in this case when I try with internet explorer7 to enter in a ftp server never happens. I have the same configuration for the http and ftp protocol.
Any suggestion ?
Regards,

Federico

How is your IE configured? Does it use proxy or direct (NATed) connection?

IE is configured using a server proxy. Of course the address of the server proxy is the pc with wingate and the port are 80 for http and 21 for ftp.

Solution 1.
Within Internet Explorer change the FTP Proxy Port to 80.

Solution 2.
On the scenario that you have a second conneciton method available like NAT or WinGate Internet Client (WGIC) - setup Internet Explorer to be a real FTP Client by removing the proxy ip address and port number for the FTP Proxy. Then turn on an intercept for port 21 in:
GateKeeper --> FTP Proxy Service --> Sessions

*And beawre that IE7 and IE6 handle FTP differently - you may want to look in IE7 help file for more information. We also have a prompting problem with QA at the moment; I will need to get an update on that sometime. If you have any more problems then here are some other tips - I may be repeating myself:

a) Use Windows Explorer instead of Internet Explorer.
b) Use a dedicated FTP client.
c) Use the NAT/WGIC connection method; i.e. remove FTP Proxy from the IE7.
d) Use the following menu option:
Internet Explorer --> Page menu --> Open FTP Site in Explorer
e) Use the username and password in the URL.
ftp://username:password@ftp.server.com

QA has done a packet capture and it is currently in an internal database with a medium priority - once other higher prioritise work is complete it will be look at in more detail.
