smtp problems with wingate

Postby ecampo » Mar 27 08 12:09 pm

Hi , I been using wingate for a while with out major problems , since my ISP , block to use his smtp server,

In wingate on inbound,, I had the ISP server, now they said to many people are using theISP SMTP server. so they blocked , and they said I have to use my smtp server from my domains joe@joe.com
ej:(mail.joe.com), but when I put my smtp server I cant send any message, I check it if I conect directly to internet with wingate, then I can send emails, so im pretty sure it has to be a configuration in wingate the problem , any ideas??

thanks
Edgar

gracias

It could be that your SMTP server requires authentication. When you send/receive email from a mail client like outlook, the client will first authenticate to collect POP3. Most mail servers will let this authentication carry over to the SMTP connection as well.

When WinGate delivers an email through your SMTP server, it doesn't make a POP3 connection first. If your SMTP server requires authentication, it will drop these connections.

To enable authentication for SMTP;

- Gatekeeper -> System -> Email -> Delivery
- Click the "..." button
- Select "Server requires authentication"
- Enter your username and password

If you are still having problems, you should enable debug logging on the SMTP Server so that you can see WinGate's communication with the remote SMTP Server in the log files.

- Gatekeeper -> System -> SMTP Server -> Logging
- Enable Debug logging

Generate the problem a few times then review the resulting log file.

C:\Program Files\WinGate\Logs\SMTP Server\SMTP Server.log

If you are having trouble understanding the debug information, feel free to make a support ticket on our online helpdesk and include your debug log with it.

Im using wingate 5.0 , I made a smtp proxy on service, because when you intall wingate , come with an smtp server, but I cant send email with this one, so I disable smtp server and made smtp proxy, so I can use inbound function and I can put the ISP smtp server., but now I have to use my domain smtp, and this is the problem., I know my smtp requiered authentication, and I check it in outlook, but cant find where to do it in wingate, I check your instructions but I don t find the ("..." button) so if you can tell me where to find this option I really appreciate,.

Hi

WinGate 5 didn't have a very good mail server in it, WinGate 6 was greatly improved for mail.

If you're using a WinGate 5.x licence, you can use it in WinGate 6 and get the later mail features.

Regards
