Auto Response to Mail

Hi,

First post.

I work for a small organisation looking to start using Wingate for our email server. While I do not use "out of office" responses to emails, some staff members like to use the whilst out of the office.

The question I have is this: Is this a feature of Wingate?

I have searched this forum, usenet and downloaded the "Mail Server 6. Scenarios and Configurations" PDF file and can find no discussion on this topic.

also in a small organisation i think it is very important to chose the right product for your needs.. in my eyes and this is no bashing against Wingate ít is better to use a more specific product for your needs. Wingate is good as a internet gateway and using as a VPN Solution.. yes also Mail is possible but did you think already about the spam problem. So you will not come arround to use additional products ... ok you can use a anti spam solution on the client side if you use a mail client to recieve the mail from wingate.. but anyway i think you should take a look to the Hexamail E-Mail Server http://www.hexamail.com/hexamailserver/

You can add a very good anti spam module and some other function you need at anytime... also a out of office responder

We are using the Anti Spam Module since 3 years and we are very very happy with it...

Thanks for replying but we already have a copy of Wingate.

I suppose that when you say that "yes also Mail is possible" you mean that "auto" :-).

If this is the case how do I go about using it? Apologies for seeming obtuse but I am coming in from using & configuring a program called FT Gate.

no as i know out off office / autoresponder is not possible with wingate mail server.

I take a short look to the mail section (we never used it) and i see a mail server, providing basic mail function. Also some basic security features like using ORL list etc... i think usable if you have no special need's.

If there is no plugin for a autoresponder under wingate existing you come not arround to use a second mail server providing this feature...

Personally i never heard about such things... maybe someone know

But you can still use the wingate as gateway if you like because wingate can act as a mail relay and can forward all mails to a second mail server..

Maybe someone from Qbik can say if Wingate 7 have a autoresponder/out of office function as new feature...

I am surprised that there seems to be no auto responder but I can see this as an anti-spam tactic. It's for this reason I never use auto-responders. I prefer to email contacts prior to taken leave of absence from the office. We were thinking of moving to Wingate because the amount of spam. Maybe there is a plugin. If not I may have to persuade people to drop the auto responder feature of the present package.

On the other hand there is Mailwasher :-)
