WinGate 5.2.2 and Kaspersky 4.0.9 for workstations

Postby hopeful » Dec 29 03 12:57 am

WinGate 5.2.2 and Kaspersky 4.0.9 for workstations do not work together.
W2K Prof + WinGate 5.2.2 + Kaspersky 4.0.9 for workstations (http: // www.kaspersky.com/buyonline.html? info=59). Without Kaspersky Anti-Virus all works normally. As soon as I stablish KAV - wingate it is blocked on start (the service will not start). It is checked up on two different hardware configurations of a computer.

Do you have Kaspersky AntiVirus for WinGate installed as well ?

I establish only Kaspersky AntiVirus for Workstations. I do not use Kaspersky AntiVirus for WinGate.

Alright, then I think I know what the problem is. It's an interaction between the legacy VisNetic Antivirus Plugin for WinGate and the Kaspersky sub-system.

All warnings when editing the registry apply - I.E. make sure you have an appropriate backup / system restore point available, etc.

Open Regedit
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Qbik Software\WinGate\Data Scanning Plugins.

See if there is a subkey there called "AntiVirus". It should NOT contain the word Kaspersky.

If there is, export that particular subkey (In-case you want to restore it) and then delete it.

Try starting WinGate then with Kaspersky 4 Workstations installed. Because of legacy support we have to keep for VisNetic Antivirus, this plugin is kept in an inactive state. The installation of VisNetic AntiVirus's Engine activates it, and enables you to use it. Because VisNetic AntiVirus also uses the Kaspersky Engine (Similar to Kaspersky AntiVirus for WinGate and Kaspersky for Workstations) it is possibly picking up on that and trying to activate itself, which, of course, it will be unable to do.
