Copy Ban list to new policy

Postby dezt » Jun 24 09 10:32 pm

Is it possible to copy a ban list from one policy to a new one? If so how? We have over 100 items in the ban list and i don't want to re-add them as it would take a long time.

It is possible, but requires messing around in your registry. If you don't feel comfortable modifying the windows registry by hand, I do not recommend using the following instructions.

1. Open regedit (start -> run -> regedit)

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Qbik Software\WinGate.

3. You need to identify the registry key that stores the policy which you want to copy. Policies are stored in many locations throughout the WinGate registry key, but in particular, the System Policies are located in .\DefaultRights\Access\, and the WWW Proxy Polices are located in .\Services\WWW Proxy Server\AccessRights\

4. Each policy is stored in a key called RecipientX, where X is a number. Check the Username and Description values inside each RecipientX key to identify the one you want to copy.

5. Once Identified, right click on the RecipientX registry key that you want to make a copy of and click export. Save the file somewhere on your hard drive. Also, make a note of what the largest value for X was of all the RecipientX registry keys and then add 1 to it, because X needs to be incremented before it can be imported again as a new policy. I will refer to this new value as RecipientY

6. Open the exported reg file in notepad, and open the find and replace function (Ctrl + H).
- Find RecipientX (being the policy that you want to copy), and replace it with RecipientY (being a new policy)

7. Stop the Wingate engine, run the modified reg file to import the new values to registry, then start the engine again. You should now have an exact copy of your ban list policy in WinGate.

These instructions are not very specific, so if you are having trouble understanding them, I recommend not using these instructions. Instead, please contact the support desk with the following information.
- GateKeeper -> Options -> Advanced Options -> Export Registry Settings
Mention which policy you want copied and where you want it copied to and we can provide you specific steps on how to acheive this.
