Incoming connections flaky since 6.6.1 upgrade

Postby sduffey » Jul 08 09 1:19 am

I recently upgraded our Wingate installation to 6.6.1. Since doing so I noticed our incoming WWW proxy and TCP mappings are flaky. I have these connections using policies to allow users based on IP address (assumed user) Wingate stops seeing these assumed users as valid and I see the blocked connections showing up on the firewall tab. If I stop the service and restart it the connections magically will work again however they will also once again stop working randomly over time.

What is the deal and how do I fix it??

I saw 6.6.2 linked by Adrien several places but the file appears to have been pulled for some reason?

Hi

http://www.wingate.com/downloads/WinGat ... 90-USE.EXE

losing the port openings is a known issue in 6.6.1. We're just working through a driver upgrade issue on Vista to release 6.6.2 which fixes it.

I've noticed some other odd things since upgrading to 6.6.x When I am making an outgoing Outlook Web Access connection to an external eXchange server I am no longer able to delete email. It instantly says the action can not be completed.

We have an internal sharepoint intranet that we allow employees to access from the internet. Again we used the incoming proxy with redirections based on host names. We are no longer able to properly authenticate to the Sharepoint server, instead I see 401 errors on the Wingate activity screen.

Both of these problems only began when Wingate was upgraded to 6.6.1. I upgraded to 6.6.2 this morning, the problems remain.

Hi

the 401 is an auth challenge from the server behind WinGate, so doesn't necessarily denote an error. However the client is supposed to pop a dialog box for auth credentials and then resubmit the request with those credentials.

Do you know if this is happening? if so it should be logged in history (you'd see more than 1 request the same, each with some traffic).

Otherwise we may need a packet capture to see what's going on. That build you installed has packet capturing facility inbuilt, which you could use if you like (that then gets both interfaces).

If you could do a capture and submit it with a ticket at http://support.qbik.com/ that would be most appreciated.

one other thing

what size license are you running? WinGate 6.6 hold more connections open to clients, so may be holding more licenses in use, which could possibly then cause a higher incidence of license over-use problems if you're on a smaller license.

We have 100 concurrent user license and we are nowhere close to that number.

In the past, an authentication box was presented to the user when accessing the intranet, you would enter credentials and you were in.

Now it SOMETIMES presents the credential box but even if it does, the browser just hangs after they are entered and we are never connected.

I could send you the url and credentials if you want to see the behavior.

Google mail also acts differently since 6.6x upgrade, it pops a message abot not all functions being able to be loaded.

Is the transparent proxy a new feature in 6.6? I noticed it was turned on but I can't recall if it was there before.

FYI I turned off the transparent proxy and my OWA connection once again allowed me to delete messages.
