STMP Gateway Questions

Postby Thredbo » Dec 01 09 5:41 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at using Wingate besides as a proxy, for use as a SMTP Gateway in the DMZ for our exchange box to replace our current one (consolidating servers :)

Current Layout is - Internet > Message Labs (SPAM) > MIMEsweeper (DMZ) > Firewall > Exchange

MIMEsweeper allows us to park / quarantine messages that exceed a predetermined size (incoming and outgoing) and allows us to release / revoke the emails as determined by us. Will v7 have this option, rather than just dropping emails that hit the limit?

If not, is it possible to have it added as a feature?

Also can I add the Message Labs servers as the only authorized senders of mail to the SMTP Gateway? Would I use the Open Relay to add these servers
(I have the IP Addresses) or is there somewhere else to set this up?

Cheers

Hadn't thought of that feature before, we'll have a think - what's the reason behind this? Is it for DLP or something?

You can change the policy of the WinGate SMTP Service so it will only grant any access to the IP of your other gateway, then everyone else will be dropped.

If you have no current policy set on the WinGate SMTP server, just

a) add a new recipient, set to anyone, go to the locations tab, and enter the IP of the Message Labs server.
b) select "are ignored" from the bottom (default policies).

Sorry for the late reply, been pretty busy with other works coming up to christmas...

We have people sending through attachments that may (or may not be work related) usually anything under 20MB we allow, but we have had people try and send out 100MB+ emails to their home accounts.

At the momment we quarantine emails that contain movie type files or anything over 20MB in size (incoming and outgoing) and then manually release it if its work related material or send a NDR or just can the email if its not.

I'll try and add the Message Labs Servers to the Policy and see how we go :)
