Error 2186 : the service is not responding to the control...

Postby KingNappa » Jan 09 04 9:23 pm

Hi, i have a problem on Wingate 5.0.1 installed on a Windows NT machine.
Yesterday morning the Wingate Engine started to eat up all the memory, and the program stopped to work properly (we can't use internet anymore). we also tried to stop the service but we obtained this error message :

Could not stop the Qbik WinGate Engine service on \\"namemachine"

Error 2186 : the service is not responding to the control function

Do you suggest me to upgrade it or I can still use this version?
If you have any suggetions please e-mail it to me!! A.s.a.p !!!

That sounds suspiciously like a deadlock. We have made significant improvements there between 5.0.1 and the later releases, so, as 5.2.2 is a free upgrade for you, I'd recommend upgrading.

1. Does rebooting the machine help at all ?
2. If, after a reboot, you still cannot do anything, set the service to NOT start automatically, then reboot. You can then try to start it again once logged in (Or do the upgrade first)

I've already tried to reboot the machine with service disabled but i have the same result.
I'll try to upgrade the software (where i can find the upgrade :P) but if you have any other suggestion please contact me!

Thanks a lot!

There are two other things you can try. Disable the service as before and reboot. Then, backup the history.cdx and history.db (History.*) in the WinGate Folder and delete those files (History.*)

Then, backup and delete the WinGate Cache.

Then, set the service to start again and reboot it. It doesn't sound like either of those should affect it (They normally won't prevent the service from responding to control events) but it's worth a try.
