Wingate email problem

Postby suporteagro » Mar 08 11 3:28 am

Dear support,

I have Wingate configured just like "Scenario 3: An ISP hosts mail for the domain" of the "Mail Server 6 Scenarios and Configurations" document.
Lately I'm experiencing a problem related to this configuration: many of my messagens are been rejected with the error "Relay denied" because of the fact that all messages are delivered using the authentication of only one ISP account. So my mail are considered like SPAM.

I would like to know if there is a way to solve this problem, preferably keeping the mail configuration.

Thanks for your attention.

Hi

Relaying denied means that you're sending to a server that believes (based on the destination email address) that you're trying to use it to relay mail, and you're not permitted to.

if this error is coming from your ISP SMTP server, that implies that either they changed their config and broke it (you'll need to contact them) or something to do with your authentication to them for mail sending broke.

If the error is coming from the WinGate SMTP server when a client tries to send to it, that implies WinGate believes the sender is untrusted (interface usage change?) or that trusted users are no longer able to relay (mail reception settings changed).

Do you know where this relaying denied message is coming from?

Hi Adrien,

The error comes from my ISP SMTP. I paste an example below:

"This is the mail system at host frink0002.locaweb.com.br.

I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not
be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below.

For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster.

If you do so, please include this problem report. You can
delete your own text from the attached returned message.

The mail system

<nfe-diabrasil@fornecedor.neogrid.com>: host 187.45.215.11[187.45.215.11] said:
554 5.7.1 <nfe-diabrasil@fornecedor.neogrid.com>: Relay access denied (in
reply to RCPT TO command)"

I have already contacted the ISP and they said that problem occurs because the account that authenticates in the SMTP is not the same that is sending the message. And, according to their rules, it can be configured as SPAM.

So I would like to change my Wingate Mail configuration keeping the main structure. Which means: Wingate manages the mail but each account authenticates individually in the ISP SMTP. But I'm not sure if it's possible.

Thanks,
Gabriel

Hi Gabriel

I am suspicious about what your ISP told you, for the following reason:

the message you show is a bounce message you receive back correct? That means

a) the original message your WinGate sent to the ISP was accepted
b) the ISP tried to relay it to frink0002.locaweb.com.br (this is not your ISP mailserver correct?) and got bounced

How you authenticate to the ISP when sending to it will only affect your delivery of the mail to the ISP mail server. You would not have received a bounce message like that if you'd been rejected because of credentials.

WinGate can only associate one set of credentials with a mail server (such as your ISP mailserver).

Are you finding all mail is bouncing, or just to certain destinations?

It's possible that frink0002.locaweb.com.br is another server at your ISP perhaps?

Hi Adrien,

After talking with several people, I think my ISP solved the problem internally.
Thank you very much for you help and I'm sorry. The ISP could have solved the problem the first time I complained.
