Purchasing a Proxy Server?

Mar 26 11 8:57 am

Hi, I am looking to buy a proxy server for a non-profit computer learning center. The network has a server running Windows 2003 and 9 clients running XP. Do I have to buy both a user license and a gateway license? Do I install the proxy on the server running Windows 2003 or should I install it on a different computer?

Hi

for WinGate you just buy one license, which is activated on the single WinGate installation for your network. The "size" of the license depends on how many computers you anticipate will concurrently use the proxy to get to the internet.

The machine to install WinGate on is the one with the internet connection. If that's your 2k3 server that's fine, but it needn't be. Any windows machine post windows 2000 will do.

We also have a non-profit discount, make sure if you purchase from anyone you raise this.

Thanks for the response.

I see you have three different types of licenses: Standard, Professional and Enterprise. I am not sure which to get. All I want to do is monitor each user’s browser activity, add an interactive user agreement to the browser and set the non-profits website as the homepage. Which one should I get?

Here is a good description of the features each license includes:

Yes, I saw the comparison chart but it is filled with jargon I'm not to sure about. Does the standard version do everything I need it to?

From what you have described a standard license should suffice, unless you need any of the additional features listed in the above comparison chart.

Thank you.

One thing - the interactive user agreement - you mean like a challenge page that users have to get past before they can surf?

WinGate 6 can't do that sorry. WinGate 7 can do it with policy configuration though which we could help you with.
