www proxy server problem

Postby scott » Jul 30 11 2:26 am

I am unable to configure www proxy server in Wingate. I use another DNS program called SimpleDNS plus and configured Wingate to point to it. The problem is I want to configure PureSight filtering but cannot due to disabling Wingate's DNS. Need help.

Hi

Disabling WinGate's DNS server doesn't prevent the WWW proxy from running.

Looks like you started some other service that listens on port 80, which is conflicting with WinGate's WWW proxy, and preventing it from starting.

You'll either need to prevent that other application from doing that, or get the WWW proxy to use another port.

For instance Skype nowadays for some unfathomable reason listens on port 80.

I checked my services if port 80 was used, none noted, but I am no expert, but a hobbiest. I changed my www proxy server to port 81, works good. Thank you for the quick response.

thanks for getting back.

We did a bit of work in this area in WinGate 7, so it actually now tells you the application that is conflicting.

Is it possible to upgrade to Wingate 7 beta from 6.6.4 or not recommended until the stable version is done.

Thanks,

Hi

It's possible, it's actually recommended on a new install, since then you won't have policy migration issues.
