Server closed connection prior to completion of transaction

Hi all,

We have Wingate version 6.6.4 running and we have been receiving numerous reports of users being disconnected from random websites.

Looking at the logs we can see a few entries as per below:-

Error: Server closed connection prior to completion of transaction - terminating

Does anyone know if this means the remote server has closed the connection or the Wingate server itself?

Any help to resolve this would be much appreciated!

Hi

this means the remote server closed the connection before WinGate received all the data that it expected to receive.

This happens if:

1. The Content-Length header was present and indicated a length we expected to receive
2. Chunked transfers were indicated, in which case either a chunk was not fully recieved, or the final 0-length chunk was not received indicating completion of the transfer.

Hmmm, is there anything in the Wingate setup that could affect this?

Is there anymore diagnosis logging on Wingate we can enable to help resolve the issue?

it's not actually that uncommon, some servers aren't that well behaved.

Do you know this is causing problems? E.g. the requests that are terminated, are these failing on the clients? Does it reliably happen on some sites rather than others?

Hi Adrian.

Yes it is causing issues for sure. We have issues with a certain website hosted internally, and also an external website.

The internal site I can replicate the issue fairly regulary, and the external website is a bit harder to replicate as I don't actually use the website myself. The logs would capture the events though and I can pass you the URL's and logs if you would like.

Hi Marc

Are you able to get a packet capture maybe of this happening to your internal server between WinGate and this server?

Is the URL being handled by a script? It may be some script or server bug.
