PC Anywhere connection problems

Postby Cams » Jan 20 04 5:45 pm

Hi,

I am currently building new images and I am having dificulty getting PCA working with Wingate. I am using Win XP SP1, WIngate 5.2.2 and PCA V11.0

I have had this previously configured and working with Win98, Wingate 4.5 and PCA 8.5.

I have followed the same steps and checking settings but constantly get "unable to attach to specified device" when initiating PCA Host, behind Wingate. If I stop Wingate engine no problem.

I have followed the instuctions regarding allowing port 5631 TCP and 5632 UDP. PCA is also using these ports. Checking ENS it indicates that ports are allowed.

Any thoughts on what I can try?

Another question regards XP SP2 when released. Microsoft will be enabling ICF (internet connection firewall) on all connections, do you know of any possible problems regarding ICF and Wingate. I will be enabling auto update as all Wingate servers (X30) are remote and updating manually will be impratical.

Regards
Colin.

Colin,

Are you seeing any Firewall hits when you attempt to connect.

You could check "Notify when this range is accessed" in Port Security for your allowed connections on 5631 and 5632.

Not seeing any hits on the firewall.

I have tried starting PCA Host with firewall disabled in Wingate and I still get the error. With Wingate removed PCA works fine.

I was wondering if there could be other problems, maybe to do with Winsock versions, not sure though myself...

Problem solved.

Found that adding services for PCA did not open firewall ports for local computer to internet. Had to go to ENS and manually add 5631 and 5632 for connections out, even though default action was allow ????? Also as part of this I removed the 2 services and just left the 2 ports open in ENS.

Doesn't really sound right to have to do this so I am going to assume I did something wrong or a bug, either way, it works, I'm happy.
