Wingate vs Nero

Postby Jetfire » Feb 09 04 8:15 am

Hi,

I've been using wingate for a few years now. I recently bought a DVD-Burner and I want to use it with Ahead Nero Burning ROM. I couldn't get it to work because it always reported "drive in use by another application"

So I decided to reformat and start again with a clean install... Of course Nero worked well. The problem is, that as soon as I install wingate, nero starts to report my drive in-use... And as soon as I uninstall wingate, well nero works. Now I like wingate because it works better than Win2K's internet connection sharing and I want to keep using it. And I want to also use Nero. Any ideas where to go from here?

I tried with different burner software and with another burner... all the other softwares work well... and the other burner gives the same error with the combination of wingate-nero.

Does it tell you specifically which drive is in use?

This is very odd... if you stop the WinGate engine will it work then? I.e. is it something to do with our ENS driver, or is it the WinGate engine stopping Nero from working.

I think we will probably need to download a copy of Nero to see what is going on.

I haven't tried using more than one burner in my machine to see if they are both marked in use. I could try it, I have a spre one. But in the window where nero shows the available drives, it specifically shows my Burner drive being in use. (Drive H in this case, but it was Drive F in my previous installation)

Also, stopping the wingate engine doesn't release the drive in Nero. I will try to re-install wingate without the ENS to see if it fixes anything

Here's an update.

I have tried wingate without the ENS and I still get the same issue.

I'll try with two burners in the system and I'll keep you posted

Try something else as well. Set the WinGate Engine to start manually. (In the Service Control Manager) Reboot the machine and let Nero start. Then start the WinGate Engine, see if the drive then becomes available.

I don't know if it's the same... but when I installed wingate without ENS, the service starts at the end of the install... end right then Nero wouldn't work.

Nevertheless I'll give it a try

This is probably as useful as last year's calender but...

Several situations with Nero 5.0x/6.3.x and Wingate with the lot no problem.

Maybe move the NIC to another slot?

Odd one!
