Wingate 5.2.2 and DirecPC

Postby jeffa » Feb 13 04 12:16 pm

I have a clean install of W2k Prof with IE6sp1 installed with all the security patches for MS. I am using DirecPC internet connection. Everything was fine until two weeks ago.
When wingate and DirecPC s/w are both running my PC restarts itself. wingate works on its own(through another connection I have) and direcPC works without wingate running. I thought a reinstall was needed for wingate.
I tried to unistall Wingate through the control panel, it looked as if it did. I tried to reinstall and was denied access(yet I was at admin level) when I looked in the registry i found that the Qbik keys had not been deleted on the uninstall. W2k would not let me manually delete these key either(hence the reason the reinstall would not work)
Rebuilding the system from scratch produced them same results.
I have had to scrap wingate and look for other alternatives. I have found a product called Avirt which works with my config. but miss the wingate abilities as will my clients.

For protected keys try this: Start>run> %windir%\system32\regedt32.exe

Track down to the key[s], then give allocate 'permission' from the security menu, select the whole branch or just one key will do.
