Wingate 8 memory leak

Postby intell » Aug 08 13 10:08 am

Earlier in my GK topic I asked if it's normal for Wingate 8 eat 1.2gb ram after only 6 hours of being started.

Now Wingate is not responding anymore, eating 1.9gb. And growing around 1 mb per minute (even in a frozen state with no one connecting). There is some serious memory leak going on.

I had to restart the service, but the leak is still going on. Few minutes after started, 200 mb. Again, around 1 mb per minute.

Screen attached.

Little correction: I watched the grow proccess, it's not 1 mb per minute, it's more than 3 mb per minute. I have to restart Wingate every couple hours, please help.

Hi Intelll. I'm sorry for the trouble you are having.

It would be best if Adrien took a look at your machine to try and diagnose this problem and he will be in touch soon. In the meantime can you tell me a bit about your set up.

Have you turned off any default modules?
Are you running Kaspersky AntiVirus or PureSight plugins?
Is there a lot of HTTP traffic going through WinGate? (The Dashboard should be able to tell you the number of requests per second and other metrics)
What WinGate services are you running (DNS Client, HTTP Proxy, SOCKS etc)
How much data is in your HTTP Cache? You can see this by going to the HTTP Cache panel and looking at the values next to the volume image.

Whilst you are waiting for contact from Adrien and if you have the time, you could try disabling some modules to see if this remedies the problem.

Regards
Aaron

Hi Intell. Can you tell me if this problem happens when you restart WinGate but do NOT log into GateKeeper at all?

Thanks for your reply. I'm a bit desperated, thinking in downgrading to Wingate 7...

You mean the ones at Control Panel > Modules? No. All of them are successfully loaded there.

Are you running Kaspersky AntiVirus or PureSight plugins?

No.

Even with 0 clients, the proccess starts to "grow" (and never stops)

9gb. But I already purged, deleted and recreated the cache. Already paused it and restarted the engine, also. No dice.

I have sent Remote Desktop credentials to support@wingate.com. You can use it.

As soon as I start the service, it grows. No clients attached, I did some tests at 12:00 am.

Wow, I think I found out what was causing the problem. When I read about Wingate 8 not using MySQL anymore, I've stopped it.

Then I reactivated mysql service. In the exact moment mysqld.exe loaded, Wingate stops its leak!

Is mysql still required? Or is it a bug?

Hi Intell. I have found a bug that could cause a memory leak like what you described if you were using MySQL for Timeline also. Is this the case?

We will be making a new build of WinGate soon and can get one to you shortly once we have tested it.

Yes, I was using mysql for timeline. I forgot about that.

I changed to "Wingate MySQL" now. Is it the recommended engine to use?

(when you have the new build, please send me to test it)

You can use any engine you wish that has ODBC drivers although we recommend only using the built in MDB (Microsoft Access) database for very small sites or testing only. MySQL is more than capable for a lot of clients, it depends on your load.
