Wingate keeps crashing!

Postby stobby256 » Oct 25 13 12:44 am

Hi All,

This has happened four times now (I'll raise a ticket!)

The office goes offline, no phones or internet. Look at the wingate service, and it has stopped. Restart the service and it holds up for around three days... End of my tether at the moment!

Here's the error log...

Hi

we released a version last week that fixes a couple of crashes, so I'd recommend updating to 8.0.3.

If it still crashes, there should be files generated in the program files \ WinGate folder called wingate_crash....dmp, if you could send them in, it can really help us track down the issue.

Lost count of the number of times now...

Always memory leaks etc...

Easier to write a batch file that restarts it each morning.....!! Will raise a ticket

Hi Steve

I see you're also still running 8.0.2, but I think would be best to disable timeline if you're not going to change out MDB to another DB.

We're still evaluating alternatives to MDB due to the memory leak and concurrency / performance issues. You currently have the option of MySQL, PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server. MySQL and PostgreSQL are about a 10 - 20 minute job to set up.

Thanks for your help last night on this one Steve.

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of the DNS issue today. Also hopefully using the more responsive DNS server (google) will cause fewer of these issues, and taking logging off the DNS client will prevent it from causing a crash.

Cheers

I have similar problem. Wingate crashes several times a day, most crashes happen in a serial way - two-three-four times within 10-30 minutes, then everything works fine for several hours, then again, several crashes within a short time. Timeline module is deinstalled. Swithing caching off brings nothing positive.

Adrien, may you help here? I can attach wingate crash dumpings but not sure if it is a good way to post it here.
Thank you in advance

Goff - probably would be best if you send a ticket to support@wingate.com and someone will be able to look into this issue for you.

Hi

also, if you can send in any wingate crash files would be really useful - in the WinGate folder, called wingate_crash....dmp

Hi

We're seeing issues relating to timeline that looks like this. Basically if using MDB for timeline database (default) and logging web activity (also on by default), then when the number of records gets large it runs into problems.

You could try disabling web activity logging in timeline settings (general tab) if you're not using it.
Also purge the database.

MDB format maxes out at 2GB, after which it grinds to a painful halt.

We changed the default database in WinGate 8.1 (out soon) to SQLite for this reason.

Thank you again! Timeline module is disabled since several weeks, but it was enabled before. Disabling Timeline changes nothing in behavior, WG still crashes. I send files to support team now, hope they will find a problem. (and yes, SQLlite is generally a good idea:)

Hi

Are you using Kaspersky AV for WinGate, and WinGate SMTP server? That's our current avenue for investigation.

Yes, both of them. I disable scanning of incoming SMTP traffic in AVK settings now, lets see if it helps))

Hi

which version of Kaspersky AV for WinGate are you running? You should be able to see in WinGAte updates, or in the modules panel it will give you a full version of the kaspersky engine and UI modules.

Hi, Adrien!

We got this problem again after updating from older version (8.1.0) to 8.2.5.4733. Wingate.exe crashes several time a day.

Could you advise me, what can i do? May be parts of buggy code found a way into new version?

Thank you in advance

Hmmm... Wingate crashes but there are no dumps. Should i enable somewhere smth (debug options or smth like this) to tell wingate to make dumps?

Hi

If WinGate crashes (the service stops unexpectedly) then it should create a file in the WinGate folder. When you say crashes - is this what's happening, or something else?

Hi

WinGate creates the crash dump file itself in the top level exception filter. Usually this is pretty reliable.

So there are no dmp files in the Program files\WinGate folder?
