Forum for support for the Kaspersky AntiVirus for WinGate plugin
Feb 14 17 3:31 pm
I just updated WinGate to 9.0.4 build 5915. That seemed to go fine from series 8. However, the update for Kaspersky AntiVirus for WinGate build 5906 fails:
Install status:Failed
Install date:Monday, February 13, 2017 7:25:31 PM
Install error:Update completed with an error exit code: 5.
Suggestions?

Hi John
How did you do the upgrade, just install over the top?
Do you get any other log entries from Kaspersky AV for WinGate relating to this? May be in the global log file.

Yes, first did the install of WinGate as a normal update. I've tried to manually uninstall Kaspersky, but the uninstaller files are now gone. Also, I notice a superfluous entry for WinGate in the installed programs list as well.
Nothing useful in log file:

Ah ok
it's the KAV install you're having trouble with, I thought you meant the KAV updater (once installed).
Error 5 is access denied.
What account are you logged into the computer as? You could try Administrator if you're not using it already.

Was in as admin. I resolved the problem by manually downloading Kaspersky and installing. Seems to be working now.

OK thanks
Depending on how you're connected to Wingate when the update tries to run, it may be launched by the Wingate service (in whatever account the service is running in) or by WinGate Management.
It will launch by the service if you're connected remotely via Wingate Management, or Remote Desktop.
If you're logged into the machine locally (including via VMWare or Hyper-V) then it should run in the logged in user account.
So it's possible it ran in the account WinGate is running in which was denied?
In any case, glad it's working now.

I was running it via remote desktop.

error 5 is "access denied", which implies some permissions in the OS were not granted.
You may need to run the installer as administrator.
