POP3 Proxy + AV broken again

Postby markt » Mar 03 04 9:42 pm

Setup:
Wingate 5.2.3
Latest Kaspersky & Puresight
Win2k pro

Installed 5.2.3 & Kaspersky (upgraded from Visnetic AV, hmm..) yesterday and now have a problem with POP3 proxy (internal mail server)
in that no mail is being pulled from ISP while KAV is active for the POP3 proxy service, deactivate and all is well - this obviously defeats the object of having KAV in the first place.

Had this problem with 5.2 with the Visnetic plugin, that was cleared with 5.2.2. We are also having download problems as reported in other threads, via http proxy (all clients are IE5.5SP2/IE6+).

Anyone else experiencing this?

Hi Mark,

Are there any syslogs or messages showing in the Plugin dialogs that might give us a clearer indication ?

Did you install the version with AntiVirus databases, or did you download a new one ? Also, did you follow the installer instructions to remove the previous AntiVirus plugin ? The two do conflict when you try to run them together, so if there are any remnants of the older version left it could cause problems.

There are no logs showing anything useful at all I'm afraid.

The Visnetic plugin was removed (using its' own uninstall routine)
prior to installing KAV, the PC was rebooted before the KAV installation.

Following on from the original post, there does appear to be a level
of hit and miss. I re-enabled the KAV plugin and email came through OK - until my arrival this morning when all had stopped again. It would appear to have stuck on a message with a text/alternative MIME type, base64 encoded. I had to have this removed via the ISP and all was OK again with KAV running...

AS an aside, I have seen mention of the email responses generated by KAV - is there some interface for KAV that I have yet to come accross?

Thanks

Mark.

You can enable the email responses in the Email Server itself. (Inform Sender / Recipient / Administrator)
