Mail between two Wingate SMTP proxies

Postby markt » Mar 05 04 11:20 pm

Two sites involved, both with internal, non QBIK mail servers (Vpop3).
One mail server send SMTP mail out through
Wingate SMTP proxy via DSL, in through another Wingate SMTP proxy
to the other server. Except it doesn't.
The activity screen on both Wingates show the NAT connection being made, hangs around and then clears. The incoming mail server
reports a 'killing incomplete file'.

This setup worked flawlessly when the outgoing proxy was
WinProxy, this is the only change, switched to Wingate yesterday.
The receiving proxy has always been Wingate.

The outgoing site also appears to have trouble sending to
the ISP SMTP server (Easynet, again no trouble with Winproxy).

Any help appreciated.

If you're seeing NAT connections in the activity screen, then the SMTP proxy is not being used. You need to set the LAN clients email programs to point at the WinGate machines internal IP. Also these are both SMTP proxies, rather than having the SMTP server redirect, is that correct?

Neil,
The sender Wingate is SMTP Proxy (the one that used to be Winproxy), the receiving end is controlled via the SMTP proxy 'allow inbound mail via internal mail server' option, which obviously sets the correct 'Port Security'
options. What would I expect to see in the Activity screen for this transaction - should the smtp protocol tag appear rather than NAT? I
will look into that one.

Mark.
